Everest High Pass Trek is one of the most mesmerizing adventures you will ever embark on. Get ready to be awed by the various gigantic mountains of the Khumbu Region. It includes Mount Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8516m), Cho Oyu (8201m), Nuptse (7861m), Ama Dablam (6812), and Pumori (7161m). Everest High Pass Trek is an exciting trek which goes through the three high passes. They are Renjo La Pass (5360m), Cho La Pass (5350m), and Kongma La Pass (5535m) in the Khumbu area. These passes lead to Gokyo Lakes and Everest Base Camp. They also go to Kalapatthar and many Sherpa settlements.
Everest High Pass Trek starts as you reach Lukla by flight from Kathmandu. You then reach the Gateway of Everest, Namche Bazaar, which marks the official start of your Everest High Pass Trek. As the trail ascends, you reach the first pass, Renjo La Pass (5360m), from where you get an astonishing view of Everest (8848m), Makalu (8481m), and Cho Oyu (8201m) among others.
The trail then reaches the beautiful Gokyo Valley, home to the pristine Gokyo Lakes. You also cross Ngozumpa glacier, Nepal’s largest glacier. It’s on the way to the second high pass, Cho La Pass (5420m). From there, you get an amazing view of Ama Dablam (6856m), Cholatse (6440m), and other Khumbu Mountains.
The trek also reaches Everest Base Camp and Kalapatthar which provide you with breath taking views of Everest (8848m). The trail then descends to the last but the highest pass, Kong Ma La Pass (5535), which offers a splendid view of the mountains as well.
You then descend through several Sherpa villages. You reach Namche and then Lukla. Finally, you are back in Kathmandu. The trek requires strenuous climbing. The paths are mostly icy and slippery. So, being fit is important before considering Everest High Pass Trek.

Note : It is important to pack light and bring only the essentials. Most of the items can be rented or purchased in Kathmandu or Lukla if needed. Everest High Pass Trek FAQ's
Well, it depends on fitness level. We recommend you to trek with an experienced guide if you’re trekking for the first time. Also, you must do regular exercise in daily life and take your time before attempting this trek. We also advise you to trek during peak season rather than in the off-peak seasons.
If you’re fully fit, you don’t need any specific training. If you are completely deskbound, then some cardiac training is recommended before trekking. You can try stair climbing or hill walking. You'll be trekking uphill and downhill on rough paths for 8-12 days and 5 to 7 hours per day. Altitude may also make things much harder for you. So, you can enjoy your trek if you have a good level of fitness.
In terms of topography, no ropes and no ice picks are needed. You don’t have to climb any vertical climbing. However, the ground is not paved. So, it is going to be a rough, rocky, and gravel-strewn path. The trek involves long trails that go up and then down repeatedly. You should take caution if you have weak ankles. There can also be snow and ice in the trails depending upon the seasons. Hence, you should use caution or seek the expertise of a guide for a safe trek.
You must acquire permits such as Sagarmatha National Park Fee and TIMS (Trekkers Information Management System) card. You don’t have to worry about them. Your documents will be arranged from the official Nepal Tourism Board offices. You need to send us two passport-sized photos and scanned passport copies for the permits.
Well, it depends on your current travel insurance provider. Some insurance may not include mountainous trekking or mountain climbing. You should check with them to confirm that trekking if your policy covers the Everest High Pass Trek. Some insurance may not cover you above certain altitudes as well. So, you need to confirm this with your insurance provider too. It’s our duty to let you know that a typical rescue costs $5,000 just for the helicopter alone. So, we recommend you to get your insurance coverage.
For airport pick up and drop off, and Kathmandu visit we use private vehicles of various categories such as cars, vans, micro, bus etc., depending on the size of the group. We take a domestic flight from Kathmandu-Lukla-Kathmandu.
ATM and credit card facilities can be used in Kathmandu. During the trek itself, you need to have some cash with you as ATM services are not available in the remote villages, and payment is only acceptable in cash.
You should carry Nepalese Rupees on the trek as teahouses will never accept foreign currencies. You’ll be only spending for hot showers, charging batteries, additional drinks and snacks, and the purchase of curios. Please note that it is illegal to purchase antiques in Nepal.
Sure. You can stay as long as you want. We feel a holiday should not be concluded until you feel content. As per your request, we can add some days to your trip with additional costs to cover guides, hotel, transportation, and other expenses.
