One of those exciting trekking routes is Mardi Himal Trek. It is a quiet and less crowded trek for those who want an “off the beat ’’ trekking experience. It is one of those less noticed treks with some of the best views of the snowcapped mountains and hidden landscapes in the Annapurna region.
The Mardi Himal Trek starts from the beautiful lakeside city of Pokhara, which is a 7-8 hour drive from Kathmandu. From Pokhara, you will drive to Phedi and then start your trek. The trail passes through dense forests, charming villages, terraced fields, and stunning landscapes, offering breathtaking views of the Himalayas.
During this trek, you will pass through the rhododendron forests and enjoy the amazing views of the landscapes at every turn. You can enjoy both camping and homestay during the trek. You will also get to meet the locals and see the ethnic villages in the region. It is a trek with moderate difficulty and doesn’t require super fitness so even first-timers can enjoy this trek.
The trek is relatively easy and can be completed in 5-7 days. Mardi Himal Trek Itinerary
On your first day of the Mardi Base Camp trek, you will drive from Pokhara to Kande, which is the starting point of the trek. The drive from Pokhara to Kande takes around an hour, and the route offers beautiful views of the Pokhara valley and surrounding hills. Once you reach Kande, you will start the trek and ascend through the forested trail. The trail is steep at some places, but the scenery is beautiful with rhododendron forests, oak trees, and ferns. After about 3-4 hours of trekking, you will reach the Forest Camp at an altitude of 2,540m. The Forest Camp is a small settlement with a few tea houses and lodges. You can rest and acclimatize to the higher altitude. You can also explore the surrounding forest and enjoy the peaceful environment. In the evening, you can enjoy a warm meal and spend the night in one of the lodges.
you will leave Forest Camp and trek towards Low Camp. The trail from Forest Camp to Low Camp is mostly uphill, but the ascent is gradual and offers stunning views of the Annapurna mountain range and the valley below. After trekking for a few hours, you will reach Low Camp at an altitude of 3,035m. Low Camp is a small settlement with a few tea houses and lodges. The views from Low Camp are spectacular, with panoramic views of the mountains and valleys. You will then get a closer view of Machhapuchhre and Mardi Himal. You can spend the rest of the day exploring the surrounding area and acclimatizing to the higher altitude. You can also interact with the local people and learn about their way of life. In the evening, you can enjoy a warm meal and spend the night in one of the lodges. Overnight at lodge.
You will climb uphill towards Mardi Himal and Machhapuchhre. It will take around 4 hours.The trail passes through alpine forests and rocky terrain before reaching High Camp at an altitude of 3,590m. High Camp is a small settlement with a few tea houses and lodges. The views from High Camp are stunning, with panoramic views of the Annapurna range and the surrounding valleys. After reaching High Camp, you can rest and acclimatize to the higher altitude. From High Camp, you will be able to see the views of Machhapuchhre, Annapurna (South) and Hiunchuli. You can also explore the surrounding area and enjoy the peaceful environment. In the evening, you can enjoy a warm meal and spend the night in one of the lodges.
you will take a day hike to the Upper View Point at an altitude of 4,200m. The hike is challenging and steep, but the views from the top are spectacular, offering a 360-degree panorama of the Himalayan mountains. The trail passes through rocky terrain and some snow-covered sections before reaching the Upper View Point. You can take your time to enjoy the stunning views and take pictures. After spending some time at the viewpoint, you will descend back to High Camp. You can see the enchanting views of Mardi Himal, Machhapuchhre, Annapurna I and Gangapurna. Then you will retrace your steps back to the High Camp.
Trekking downhill, you will visit a traditional Nepali village “Siding’’. he trail descends through alpine forests, grasslands and rice paddies, offering a different perspective of the landscape. After trekking for several hours, you will reach Siding Village at an altitude of 1,280m. Siding Village is a small traditional Gurung village with a few tea houses and lodges. The village offers a unique cultural experience, where you can interact with the locals, learn about their traditions and lifestyle. You can explore the village and surrounding area, and enjoy the local cuisine. In the evening, you can interact with the locals and learn about their culture and way of life. Trekkers prefer homestay in Siding or some may also stay in the one and only lodge available in Siding.
After an early morning breakfast, you will walk towards Lumre and reach the road to begin your drive to Pokhara. It will be a two hours’ drive to Pokhara. Overnight at hotel in Pokhara.

Mardi Himal Trek is an easy trek compared to other trekking trails. You can reach the Mardi Himal Base Camp with an ease if you use trekking equipment, know the detailed itinerary, and have proper logistic support.
The temperature reaches up to 15-20°C (59-68°F) during the day. During the night, it drops down to -5°C (23°F). The best season to trek to Mardi Himal Base Camp is spring season (March to June). But, the trekking route is full all the time in a year. However, we do not recommend you to trek on Monsoon continues (July to Mid-September)
We strongly suggest you not to drink tap water. You can drink the tap water after using water purifying tablets or water filatures.
Sure, children can also easily trek to Mardi Himal Base Camp. Previously, many trekkers trekked with their child to Mardi Himal Base Camp. However, your children should know how to express themselves in the case of altitude sickness and other problems. If you have rest days, you can easily bring your children to Mardi Himal. This will give your children chance to explore snow-clad mountains, Himalayan villages, and the Himalayan wildlife.
Electricity is available in Mardi Himal area. You won’t have any problems to charge your camera battery, phone, and other electronics.

Yes, you need a permit to do the Mardi Base Camp trek. You need to obtain the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and the Trekker's Information Management System (TIMS) card. These can be obtained from the Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu or Pokhara, or through a registered trekking agency. Amble Himalaya will get all the necessary permits for you.
The Mardi Base Camp trek is considered a moderate to challenging trek, with some steep ascents and descents. However, the pace and difficulty of the trek can be adjusted to the trekker's fitness level.
