Lhasa Tour is a short journey to several major places of the Tibetan capital, depicting equal historical as well as cultural importance. Lhasa Tour is an opportunity to explore the lifestyle and culture of a place submerged in the serenity of Buddhism.

This short tour of 6 days, takes you to high altitude dry land where the religion, the architecture, and the colorful culture shines very bright. The tour takes place in some of the prominent places of Tibet, like the winter and summer palaces of successive Dalai Lamas, Potala Palace, and Norbulingka Palace respectively. Museums and streets gather the knowledge of Lhasa people. You can see the largest river in Tibet, Yarlung Tsangpo, along with the Lhasa River.

This tour visits other monasteries like Jokhang Temple, Sera Monastery, and Ganden Monastery. All of the places included in the tour have their own cultural, historical, and architectural importance. The streets of Lhasa are mosaic with different colors of Buddha paintings and the lightings. Lhasa Tour Itinerary

You will board a scenic flight to Lhasa from Kathmandu. Enjoying the views of Nepal and Tibet Himalayas, you arrive in Gonggar Airport in Tibet Autonomous Region of China. Our local representative will receive you at the airport and will transfer you to your hotel in Lhasa.

This day, you will be visiting Potala Palace, which is also known as the winter residence of the Dalai Lama. This palace is the most recognized and visited landmark in Lhasa. Then, you head to Jokhang Temple, which was founded by the 33rd great King of Tibet, and is home to a large statue of Buddha Sakyamuni. Surrounding the temple is Barkhor Street where you can circumambulate Jokhang Temple whilst exploring the old market.

Today, you will visit Norbulingka palace, which served as a summer residence for the successive Dalai Lamas. It is also listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Then, you visit Tibet Museum, which has collections of the cultural history of Tibet. From there on, you head on to Sera Monastery where you will be able to view three sand Mandalas and a colorful rock painting of Buddha.

The day is dedicated to exploring Ganden Monastery and its outskirts. The picturesque Ganden Monastery is one of the great three Gelug university monasteries of Tibet and comprises of 50 halls allocated for different purposes. Ganden Monastery sits on a hill with a shape of reclining elephant and faces east towards the bare and giant Tibetan hills. You will hike around the area before calling it a day.

After exploring the monasteries depicting Tibetan Buddhism, we head back to Kathmandu. The flight to Kathmandu pleases you with a great view of Lhasa and the Tibetan highlands. Enjoy your free evening in Kathmandu.

Lhasa Tour FAQ's

It’s not possible to get my visa for Tibet from home. We will arrange a group visa for you because travel individually to Tibet from Nepal is not accepted by the Chinese Government.

Chinese Yuan is primarily used as currency in Tibet. You can exchange your currency with Chinese Yuan at The Bank of China. Keep in mind that the banks in Tibet/China are closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Also, note that you will a have hard time cashing travelers cheque and credit cards outside the banks especially outside Lhasa.

You have many options to travel around Tibet. You can travel in taxis, buses, minibuses, pedicabs, and jeeps. You can also rent cars and bikes. In more remote areas, you will travel in minibuses and jeeps because the road conditions are not very well developed.

Well, it depends on your allergies. On your tour, you’ll be a plate mix of rice, vegetables, and lentils, plain pasta, noodles, pancakes, rice-based dishes, and other dishes depending upon the menu. We encourage you to let your guide know about your allergies.

The temperature varies between -5 degrees (at night) and 25 degrees (at daytime). Also, the place is windy after mid-day. Hence, the nights are colder. Inside the bus, you will be provided with heater, but it is recommended you dress in layers so that it is easier to put the clothes on and off depending on whether you're warm inside the vehicle or outside facing the wind.

We take precautions from the start of the trip in order to avoid altitude sickness, but in case of emergencies our team is prepared with emergency medicines to reduce the effects. In case the person is too unwell, s/he would be taken to the hospital and would not continue the Yatra.
